Can I use the money in my IRA or 401(k) to invest in multifamily properties?

Description:  Explanation on using 401K funds for investments

Maybe.  What you really need is a self-directed IRA or self-directed 401(k).  That just means that you get to choose how to invest your money without restrictions from the company that holds your account.  If that’s what you have, then you’re golden.  If that’s not what you have, then it’s frequently possible to simply transfer your account to another provider that gives you those capabilities.  But the important point is this:  It’s totally legal and in bounds to invest your retirement savings into a multifamily real estate project.
